Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
