Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
