Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
