Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
