Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
