Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
