Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
