Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
