Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
