Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
