Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
