Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
