Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
