Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
