Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
