Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
