Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
