Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
