Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
