Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
