Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
