Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
