Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
