Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
