Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
