Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
