Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
