Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
