Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
