Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
