Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
