Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
