Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
