Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
