Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
