Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
