Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
