Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
