Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
