Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
