Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
