Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
