Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
