Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
