Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
