Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
