Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
