Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
