Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
