Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
